To give conventional binoculars a fighting chance for this shootout against Canon IS 15x50 I decided to go with Orion Little Giant II 15x70 on monopod. The rubber housing body provide slip-proof grip and secure handling even in wet weather conditions or in rain. No personal experience other than with the 10x42 ISL, but a birding friend here in NYC used the 15x50 IS for routine birding and was quite happy with it.

My only complaint is that the eye cups are quite wide so for me they sre pressed hard against my nose when using them. I eventually sold the 15x50 and replaced it with the 10x42 L IS, which has better image quality and a more convenient all-round magnification/FOV/DOF combination, but the 15x50 definitely showed significantly more in distant raptors - or any distant birds for that matter. Aperture and power are large enough to put many targets within the reach, even under light polluted skies. Binoculars in groups one and two employ Vari-Angle Prism IS, while models from the third group employ lens element shifting IS (same as in Canon IS photo lenses). I have also used a pair of Russian made image stabilised binos and they gave me the impression that the floor was falling away under me.Regardless, once you do decide and then have your new IS binocular in your hands, you will most likely be amazed at how well the IS works and wish you had bought one sooner.

I tried a few dimmer NGC clusters, but the light pollution in my backyard was a limiting factor, so I stuck with the brighter Messier clusters for the most part. It is a mistake that many people new to binoculars make and I feel that it is important to point out that the greater the magnification does not mean the better the binoculars. My IS 10x30s -- admittedly much lower draw than 15x50s -- having been running for more than a year of fairly heavy use on one pair of lithium cells. I used to have a pair of the 14x40 Fujinon's and did not like the swaying effect caused by the prism movement. From easy craft ideas to origami-style 3D models – bring the paper fun into your daily life and add a personal touch to your creations with the editing function. The weight did start to factor after about an hour of use, but by that time the cold breeze got to me and I was ready to stop. The also do an 18x50 set but reviews I read from astronomers often said they felt the field of view was too narrow with these.

The binoculars are high quality and are designed to fit in the hand – a great ergonomic solution to observing on the move. I thought my selection of binoculars is good, but Canon easily superseded them all, delivering sharpest views with pinpoint stars and ultra-flat field. The rugged build quality features a rubber finish to withstand the UK's weather conditions, making these binoculars ideal for heavy-duty use. High magnification (15x) binocular with large 50mm objective lenses and Canon's excellent image stabilisation system to help reduce hand shake.

Still, it is a good option for someone looking for widest field of view and large exit pupil in somewhat smaller and lighter package. Save time and money with a Canon subscription service that puts your printing needs first and lets you print your way.
